are among Europe's foremost research institutes. The Sahlgrenska Academy is the faculty of health sciences at the University of Gothenburg. Education and research are conducted within the fields of pharmacy, medicine, odontology and health care sciences. About 4000 undergraduate students and 1000 postgraduate students are enrolled at Sahlgrenska Academy. The staff is about 1500 persons. 850 of them are researchers and/or teachers.
At Chalmers, research in bioengineering and bioscience is conducted at more than half of our departments. Chalmers Biocenter acts as a portal to and co-ordinator of these activities with the aim of strengthening research, development, and education related to biology, biotechnology, and biomedicine at Chalmers.

Together, Sahlgrenska Academy and Chalmers have nearly 3,500 full-time students in medicine and biotechnology. Did you know that Göteborg has one Nobel Prize Laureate and that the Faculty of Odontology has been ranked 2 in the world?
A history of making discoveries a reality for patients
Swedish research emphasizes the need to be close to patients, and basic research activities are often integrated with clinical research. Clinical expertise available at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, the largest hospital in Northern Europe, is a major advantage. The Göteborg region has a solid track record in developing blockbuster drugs as well as innovative tools and technologies.
Science + Entrepreneurship
A unique master´s programme has been launched in Göteborg, educating tomorrow´s leaders within life science. At Göteborg International Bioscience Business School the students are deeply involved in real projects. Some of these projects have turned into companies.
