The Faculty of Science
The Faculty of Science at University of Gothenburg embraces all the major areas in the fields of mathematics and natural sciences. Each year 6500 students and 300 post graduate researchers are educated at the faculty and there are 800 employees.

The Faculty of Science hosts some of the world´s most prominent research teams and it is divided into nine departments: Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Conservation, Earth Sciences, Marine Ecology, Mathematical Sciences, Plant and Environmental Sciences, Physics and Zoology. Mathematical Sciences operates jointly with Chalmers University of Technology.external link, opens in new window

Some of the departments are located close to Sahlgrenska Academy and have therefore a favourable base for life science research, such as cell and molecular biology. There is also a joint effort with Chalmers University of Technology and other academic institutions in the field of functional genomics, and due to Göteborg´s position on the west coast the faculty has become an important centre for marine research, including marine chemistry, oceanography and various biological disciplines.
