"It is thanks to all the donors in Sweden that we can ensure continued research into heart, lung or vascular diseases. Researchers are doing a fantastic job in the development of methods for the treatment of these complicated illnesses, and our task is to finance their efforts," says Staffan Josephson, Secretary General of the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation.
About the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation:
• The Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation is the largest single financier of independent heart and lung research in Sweden.
• This year the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation is allocating MSEK 165 to research, an increase of MSEK 5 over the previous year.
• Every year the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation finances about 200 ongoing research projects at hospitals and universities around the country.
• During 2011 researchers have applied for more than MSEK 1000 in research support from the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation, which has been able to contribute 16 % of the sum.
• One of the goals of the Swedish Heart-Lung Foundation is to reduce the number of deaths from heart attack by 50 % over the next ten years.
