Immunicum receives patent protection
Jamal El-Mosleh, CEO, Immunicum.
The cancer vaccine company Immunicum has received a European patent, protecting the use of white blood cells from donors in combination with a relevant tumor antigen for cancer immunotherapy.
By utilizing the natural rejection process that occurs in transplantation of foreign tissue, Immunicum´s innovators have developed a therapeutic vaccine against cancer.

The patented treatment is based on vaccination with tumor antigen-loaded white blood cells from healthy donors. With this unique vaccination strategy, Immunicum hopes to be able to create better circumstances for treating and preventing cancer. A big advantage of the vaccine is that it can be mass-produced and stored in frozen form. In addition, the vaccine cells can be loaded with different tumor antigens making it possible to treat almost any type of cancer.

Immunicum´s technology is based on over 20 years of research within the area of transplantation immunology and has been tested in several animal studies with promising results. By the end of 2011, Immunicum intends to start a clinical phase I/II trial on renal cell carcinoma, where both tolerance and effect will be evaluated.

The company will initiate a financing round shortly to fund the completion of the clinical trial.
