Swedish biotech company receives EU funding for a novel treatment of bacterial infections
Thanks to a novel approach using probiotics, it is possible to treat and prevent bacterial infections in a natural and sustainable way.
Lavivo, a young Swedish biotech company who develops novel sustainable synbiotic products to treat and prevent bacterial infections at the physical barriers of the body, is managing an international European Union (EU) funded project which will result in a novel controlled synbiotic solution intended to treat and prevent antibiotic associated diarrhea (AAD) and Clostridium difficile associated disease (CDAD).

Clostridium difficile (C. difficile), a very toxic bacteria that is becoming more common and which has a growing resistance against the use of antibiotics, will in the future be treated using a novel controlled synbiotic solution. During the last decade an increased mortality rate has been linked to the occurrence of the bacteria.

Since the early evolution of mankind, humans have survived and handled different bacterial infections in a natural way. Our bacterial flora in the gastrointestinal system is a very important component that makes us stay healthy and benefit from the food we eat.

During a large part of the last century the use of antibiotics has had a prominent position in fighting bacterial infections since the medical focus has been to fight all bacteria. Today it is becoming more clear with evidence building that antibiotics of today is not a long term solution due to the growth of resistant bacteria in the world, a serious threat to humans, and also an increased insight that certain bacteria are needed.

An introduction to the Lavivo managed international project, developing a new solution for treatment and prevention of antibiotic associated diarrhea and Clostridium difficile associated disease, can be found at www.qualvivo.euexternal link, opens in new window.
