FACTS, DENTAL IMPLANTS
Hundreds of thousands of Swedes have dental implants — a sort of artificial tooth root made of titanium. The titanium screw is operated into the jawbone and takes root there, for subsequent use as an anchorage for dental crowns, bridges or dentures. There are different titanium implant variants, but all are based on the fact that the metal, titanium, has the unique ability to take root in the bone. The method was invented by Professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark at the Sahlgrenska Academy during the 1960s.
