Chalmers looking for tomorrow´s leading researchers
Chalmers is now accelerating its programme for developing its areas of advance into an international arena for academia, industry and the community. Next in line is a broad-based national and international campaign to recruit the next generation of leading scientists. The aim is that together with other players, these scientists will develop sustainable solutions for tomorrow´s society.
"The recruitment process is very exciting since we are looking for and hopefully will bring in tomorrow´s top researchers — researchers with a strong interest in carrying their work out into society at large," says Stefan Bengtsson, First Vice President of Chalmers and the person leading the process of developing the university´s areas of advance.

It is not only the extent of the recruitment drive that is new. Once installed, the new researchers will not have a predetermined place at any given institute or department.

"They will be free to choose where in our organisation they want to work. The aim is that they should build bridges within and between the areas of advance. Entirely in line with our vision that the areas of advance should be characterised by interaction and openness to new ideas, and that they should respond to concrete and complex issues, ensuring in the long term that Chalmers contributes knowledge and competence with a knock-on effect throughout the community," says Stefan Bengtsson.

The areas of advance that have been defined are socially relevant spheres where integration of Chalmers´ education, research and innovation constitutes a particular strength. The eight areas are: Energy, Information and Communication Technology, Life Science, Materials Science, Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Production, Built Environment and Transportation.

This recruitment campaign will be followed by additional recruitment drives for the areas of advance next year.
