Anders Tjellström awarded honorary doctorate at Chalmers
An honorary doctorate is being conferred on Anders Tjellström for his leading research on skull-anchored implants, and for his great contributions to interdisciplinary collaboration between medicine, technology and business.
Anders Tjellström is an associate professor in the Department of Ear, Nose and Throat Diseases at the Sahlgrenska Academy in Gothenburg. Having retired several years ago, he remains active in research projects and often chairs international workshops, symposia and panels at major conferences.

An honorary doctorate is being conferred on Anders Tjellström for his leading research on skull-anchored implants, and for his great contributions to interdisciplinary collaboration between medicine, technology and business. His particular contribution to the development of the bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA) — where what is known as bone conduction is used so that the auditory canal, tympanic membrane and middle ear can be bypassed and the cochlea can be stimulated directly — has attracted wide international attention. It is characteristic of Anders Tjellström that, with his respected professional expertise combined with strong social skills, he has succeeded in taking innovative solutions in medical devices to the level of broad clinical application — an important step where many good ideas often fail. Thanks in no small part to his efforts, two world-leading hearing aid companies have become established in the Gothenburg region.

Through his contacts, Anders Tjellström has created research collaboration for Chalmers with several well-known international universities.
