AnaMar starts clinical trial
The Göteborg-based firm AnaMar Medical starts its first clinical study when the substance AMAP102 for the treatment of rheumatism enters Phase I in the United Kingdom this week.
AnaMar Medical has received approval from the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Authority (MRHA) to commence clinical trials (tests on patients) for the substance AMAP102 for the treatment of rheumatism. A Phase I trial starts in the UK this week, with the aim of investigating the safety and pharmacokinetics of the substance, how the drug is broken down and disappears from the body.

AMAP102 is given orally and works by inhibiting the production of two important cytokines linked to rheumatoid arthritis: interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNF-?). High levels of IL-6 and its receptor have been observed in the serum of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and correlate with high rheumatic activity.

"When the clinical phase is over we will look for partners for the next stage in the development of AMAP102, which also applies to other substances that are in the preclinical phase," comments CEO Owe Gårlin.

AnaMar is based in Göteborg and has a research branch in Lund. The company focuses on the identification and treatment of chronic joint diseases, particularly rheumatism. AnaMar has a portfolio consisting of five drug projects and three biomarkers originating from academic institutions and selected partners.
