More than SEK 27 million for Göteborg-based health research
The VINNOVA programme "Innovations for the health of the future" finances Swedish life-science research and innovation that meets the needs of the future for new products, services and processes for the prevention, diagnostics, treatment and care of disease.
New methods for the treatment of diseases of the brain, cancer, obesity and cardiovascular diseases. New breast-milk substitute, implantable hearing aid and removal of viruses from the air. These are just some of the research initiatives in the area of health now being financed by VINNOVA, the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems, totalling just over SEK 208 million.

The VINNOVA programme "Innovations for the health of the future" finances Swedish life-science research and innovation that meets the needs of the future for new products, services and processes for the prevention, diagnostics, treatment and care of disease. The starting point is the needs that may exist in the area of health within 10-15 years.

In the first round of the initiative seventeen projects and six research and innovation environments are now receiving a total level of funding of just over SEK 208 million. In Göteborg, three projects and one research and innovation environment have received total funding of SEK 27,495,000.

 
Project:
Ann Hellström, University of Gothenburg , S$K 5,000,000, treatment and diagnostics of retinopathy (vascular changes in the retina) posing a threat to sight in preterm infants.

Bo Håkansson, Chalmers, SEK 4,995,000, new implantable hearing aid.

Georg Kuhn, University of Gothenburg , SEK 5,000,000, new nanomaterials for the treatment of diseases of the brain using stem cells.

Research and innovation environments:
Fredrik Höök, Chalmers, SEK 12,500,000, next-generation measuring instruments for rapid medical diagnostics and cost-effective drug screening.
