Many private individuals want to invest in Chalmers
Olle Stenberg, President, Chalmers Innovation.
More than 100 private investors have put their own money into various Chalmers incubator companies via the recently started Chalmers Innovation Affiliate Fund. “The response exceeded our expectations by a wide margin," says Olle Stenberg, President, Chalmers Innovation.
Two months ago a new fund was set up that gave private investors the opportunity to invest in Chalmers Innovation incubator companies, an opportunity that is usually restricted to institutions. Via the Chalmers Innovation Affiliate Fund, money is invested in the Chalmers Innovation Seed Fund, which in turn invests in companies that are or have been operating within the sphere of Chalmers Innovation. The share price is 10,000 kronor and each investor must purchase at least ten shares.

“The response exceeded our expectations by a wide margin. There are more than 100 people from Sweden and abroad who have chosen to invest in our fund," says Olle Stenberg.

All told, the Chalmers Innovation Affiliate Fund has now attracted 30 million kronor. In parallel with this, the European Investment Fund, which launched the Chalmers Innovation Seed Fund about a year ago, will add a similar amount. This means that the Chalmers Innovation Seed Fund will increase its capital from 110 million kronor to 170 million kronor. The other owners of the fund are the European Investment Fund, the Sixth AP Fund, the Länsförsäkringar Alliance, the Chalmers Industrial Technology Foundation and Chalmers Innovation.

“This feels particularly important in times of company closures and a tough economic climate. I believe that the immense interest is largely an effect of the financial crisis. Many people realize the importance of creating new, growing companies that can conquer the world," says Olle Stenberg.
