Leading stem-cell researchers look to the future
This week, Swedish and American stem-cell researchers will be meeting in Los Angeles to discuss future applications for stem cells. Researchers Georg Kuhn and Jonas Faijerson Säljö are representing Sahlgrenska Academy and the University of Gothenburg.
The symposium is being arranged by the Beckman Research Institute of the City of Hope and the Swedish Consulate in Los Angeles. The symposium has been sponsored by the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine and its aim is to stimulate dialogue between the participants, who represent both academia and various pharmaceutical companies. It is hoped that the symposium will lead to new long-term and productive cooperation.

In addition to the Sahlgrenska Academy, the symposium will be attended by representatives of Karolinska Institutet, Lund University, Cellartis AB , Uppsala University and NeuroNova AB. California is represented by the Buck Institute for Aging, the California Institute for Regenerative Medicine, Cedars Sinai Medical Center, the Scripps Research Institute, University of California, the Geron Corporation, Life Technologies and Novocell Inc. Among the other delegates are the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the National Institute of Health, the National Stem Cell Bank and the WiCell Research Institute.

The symposium is called “Innovation and Translational Stem Cell Therapy for Diabetes and Neurological Diseases: Paving the Way for Real Life Solutions". The symposium is open to the general public and will take place on September 29 and 30 in Los Angeles.
