Göteborg gets spearhead programme in entrepreneurship
On June 11, the government decided that two spearhead programmes at masters´ level in entrepreneurship and innovation are to be developed in Sweden. The country´s various higher education institutes were invited to apply for the additional funds that have been earmarked for this purpose. A panel of international experts examined the applications. Chalmers and University of Gothenburg took first place with a joint application. Second place was taken by Lund University.
The government has accepted the choice of the expert panel and has decided to award the two universities in Gothenburg a total of 10.2 million kronor and Lund University 5.1 million kronor for this year and next year. "Entrepreneurship is such a crucial factor for Sweden´s future that we need spearhead education of the very highest international level. Gothenburg and Lund have two excellent academic environments, which we hope to reinforce still further through these additional funds," says Lars Leijonborg, Minister for Higher Education and Research, in a government press release dated June 11, 2009.
