GöteborgBIO congratulates Sven Enerbäck on his five-year research professorship
Professor Sven Enerbäck
GöteborgBIO offers its congratulations to Sven Enerbäck, professor of genetics at the University of Gothenburg, who was awarded one of two research professorships by The Söderberg Foundations in 2009. The grant will finance five years of full-time research into obesity.
Sven Enerbäck conducts research into the fat tissue´s biology and his studies have among other things led to increased understanding of the biological mechanisms behind obesity and diabetes.

Sven Enerbäck and his colleagues recently demonstrated that what is known as brown adipose tissue or brown fat is also found in adults. Scientists previously believed that this type of fat was only found in newborns. The research group is now working on further studies into the function of brown fat and its formation, something that may be of considerable significance in the treatment of obesity.

The second research professorship was awarded to Mats Wahlgren at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm. He studies the molecular mechanisms behind malaria.

The professorships have been awarded by The Söderberg Foundations and will finance full-time research for five years.
