Award winner Per-Ingvar Brånemark!
We congratulate Per-Ingvar Brånemark to the annual award from West Sweden Chamber of Commerce and Industry!
The board of West Sweden Chamber of Commerce and Industry based their decision on Per-Ingvar Brånemark´s discovery that titanium can integrate with bone and the effects this discovery has had to the development of the biotechnology industry in Western Sweden . The company that Brånemark started, based on this discovery, has had great significance to the success and prosperity of the biomedicine cluster in Western Sweden .
Professor Brånemark receives the award for his successful commercialisation of the discovery that titanium has the ability to integrate with bone tissue through a process called osseointegration. This discovery enabled Per-Ingvar Brånemark to develop implants for anchoring missing teeth and other parts of the human body.
Amongst previous recipients are Arvid Carlsson Nobel laureate, Ingvar Kamrad founder of Ikea and Pehr G Gyllenhammar former CEO of Volvo.
