Awards for innovative women at the University of Gothenburg
Marcia Grimes, Sofia Andersson (replaces Kerstin Broo) and Afrouz Behboudi
Three female researchers at the University of Gothenburg are to share 120,000 kronor in consultancy grants for the further development of their business ideas. The award-winners of this year´s idea competition are Associate Professor Afrouz Behboudi, Doctor Marcia Grimes and Associate Professor Kerstin Broo. All three are excellent examples of researchers who aim to give their research added benefit through commercialisation. At the awards ceremony, the winners received their prize from Margareta Wallin Peterson, Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Gothenburg.
This year´s winning ideas are in the early commercialisation phase but all three show considerable potential. They focus on a cure for cervical cancer, prevention of allergies and a product that converts inexpensive agricultural products into tasty food products.

"We can discern increasing interest in commercialisation in the research fraternity and this year´s three winners are all good examples of innovative researchers," says Klementina Österberg, President of GU Holding.Together with Research & Innovation Services at the University of Gothenburg and Sahlgrenska Science Park.

GU Holding runs a project to stimulate more researchers to give their research added benefit through commercialisation. In addition to awarding consultancy grants, the project also publishes a magazine called Forskare & Företag (Researchers and Business) which is sent to all researchers at the University of Gothenburg. The project is partly financed by the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth, which has given Region Västra Götaland the task of coordinating a programme to promote women´s entrepreneurship.
