Mölnlycke´s Safetac technology has revolutionized the treatment of wounds. With their soft outer layers of silicone, Mölnlycke woundcare products have created a completely new standard for quicker and safer healing.
“The Safetac technology is an important part of our product portfolio, and will continue to be so in the future," says Pierre Guyot, newly appointed Managing Director of Mölnlycke Health Care.
“But we still have to work dynamically; we have to keep developing new ideas and new solutions in close cooperation with those who use them."
Active wound-care
One example is Xelma, a newly developed biotechnology for care of hard-to-heal wounds. With the Xelma treatment, a special protein is added that helps build new cells.
“It is a very promising ‘active´ wound-care technology, which we have great hopes for and which we continue to develop intensively," says Pierre Guyot.
“It opens up new possibilities for the treatment of, among other things, venous leg sores that heal poorly."
“We focus on finding innovative solutions to tough problems in wound care. We have a range of new products in the pipeline, with exciting possibilities," says Pierre Guyot.
He sees great opportunities for the company over the next years. “The big challenge is to continue to develop innovative products at the same swift rate as earlier, and simultaneously become even better at marketing products internationally.
Today we have a strong leadership position in Europe and in several other markets, and still have great potential in North America."

“To succeed internationally, we have to maintain a worldclass standard all the time when it comes to developing new products and techniques. And thanks to the positive research climate in Göteborg, we have a very good platform to build on," says Pierre Guyot, and he draws a comparison with the creativity and vitality in Silicon Valley during the IT boom.
“I lived in San Francisco during that time, and the feeling that anything is possible, which was typical for Silicon Valley, is exactly what I experience in Göteborg. There is broad competence here, as well as unique opportunities and desire for cooperation."
GöteborgBIO is, according to Pierre Guyot, an excellent example of how research, society and industry can cooperate — for everyone´s benefit:
“I recently read an article in Le Monde where Göteborg was described as a role model when it comes to cooperation between education, society and industry. That is my opinion, too — here, the prerequisites for success are in place."
